House of Bock – Artist Bio

House of Bock is the creative family partnership of Helen, George and Margaret Bocking, three artists and creatives whose approaches differ in style but align in spirit. Together, they explore colour, nature, and the therapeutic joy of creating without restraint.

Helen is a vibrant artistic force who embraces colour with boldness and freedom. For her, art is a space of freedom and wellbeing—a therapeutic practice grounded in intuition and play; a place to explore and have fun with art. She gravitates toward bold palettes and rich layered textures with energetic palettes, building depth through whimsical drawings in bold, bright and child-like styles. Whether splashing paint or experimenting across mediums, Helen’s work celebrates emotion, colour, and the beauty of letting creativity simply be. Her work reflects the simple joy of creating art because you can.

George is a painter working primarily in oils and acrylics, drawing inspiration from the natural world and all things biological. Mushrooms, flowers, animals, and organic forms often find their way onto his canvas, reflecting both his curiosity and his wanderer’s spirit. His work is defined by rich tones, thoughtful shading, and a strong sense of movement. Just as light and shadow bring life to the natural world, George uses them to give depth and vitality to his two-dimensional subjects.

He has been drawing and painting since his teenage years and continues to fully embrace the artist’s calling to create original work. Over the years, he has produced prize winning paintings, had his fantasy miniatures published in books, created the most fantastic one-off gifts for his little sister and mum, and even crafted large shop boards advertising fish and shellfish. He primarily created these boards to be used in the family’s fresh fish shop in the UK—The Fish Shed, but this has since led to him selling similar boards to other shop owners.

Margaret is a crocheter and a sewer who creates in fabric and yarn. Her speciality pieces include giant crocheted octopuses and jellyfish, charming Amigurumi whippet dogs in grey, taupe, and black, and tote bags made from lively, seaside-inspired fabrics. She also shares her skills with the community through the Craft with a Purpose group at Redbank Plaza, contributing to meaningful installations such as a remembrance poppy tree and festive teddies for the centre’s Christmas display.

Together as House of Bock, Helen, George and Margaret collectively create beautiful original crafts that are enjoyed and appreciated around the world.
